T&G exports to US surmounts combined turnover to all others

The Vietnamese MOIT has recently released detailed statistical data, by providing country wise export figures of 2008 from the textile and garment industry. According to the data, the sector has achieved a consolidated turnover of US $9.12 billion in 2008, while it spent $8.05 billion to import raw materials for the industry.
During the year, US remained the largest exporting market from the Vietnamese textile and garment industry in exporting goods worth $5.105 billion, accounting for 55.98 percent of overall export turnover from the sector.
The second place was taken by Japan, which saw shipments from the industry touch $820.05 million and in the process making up for 8.99 percent of all shipments from the textile and apparels industry.
Japan was followed by Germany, UK and Taiwan in the third, fourth and fifth places and in the process, Vietnam achieved an export turnover of $395.47, $316.80 and $292.67 million respectively in the year 2008.
