Cocoon production in Guangxi accounts for 20% of world output

According to statistics released recently, Guangxi Province has achieved an average fresh cocoon yield of 102.82 kilograms per mu (one hectare =15 Chinese mu), which provided a return of 2040 Yuan per Mu.
The corresponding national average cocoon yield is 59.19 kilograms while returns are 1320 Yuan per mu. In the process cocoon breeders in Guangxi province have been able to realize higher returns by 73.37 and 55.3 percent in volume and value respectively.
Cocoon production in Guangxi has grown from just 29,000 tons in 2000 to an awesome 205,200 tons in 2007 and taking the top spot in cocoon production in the country for 3 consecutive years in the country.
Cocoon production in Guangxi accounts for about 30 percent of national output and about 20 percent of the world output and has even exceeded the combined cocoon production in India, the world's second largest sericulture country.
Influenced by the global financial crisis since late 2008, China's silkworm industry has been impacted to great extent and cannot avoid the fate, faced by its compatriots from the textile and garment sector.
