Cocoon production in Guangxi has grown from just 29,000 tons in 2000 to an awesome 205,200 tons in 2007 and taking the top spot in cocoon production in the country for 3 consecutive years in the country.

Cocoon production in Guangxi accounts for about 30 percent of national output and about 20 percent of the world output and has even exceeded the combined cocoon production in India, the world's second largest sericulture country.

Influenced by the global financial crisis since late 2008, China's silkworm industry has been impacted to great extent and cannot avoid the fate, faced by its compatriots from the textile and garment sector.
