The handloom sector provides employment to over 6.5 million people, who more so are from rural backgrounds. In a bid to promote the sector, the government conducts regular training workshops and exhibitions for the benefit of these workers.

This workshop called Tantavi, is conducted by the National Center for Textile Design (NCTD), which operates under the Ministry of Textiles. One such workshop, the fourth in the series, so far has been organised in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.

The exhibition will not only display handloom products produced by the weaver's cooperatives of the state, but also home textiles and clothing developed by the New Delhi centre of National Institute of fashion Technology (NIFT).

A buyer-seller meet has also been organised for domestic and international buyers. Tantavi will also be organised in all major metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Chennai, Bangalore and Ahmedabad. This expo will run till March 3, 2009.
