Technical textiles becoming force to reckon with

The most common definition of technical textiles is the use of textiles in applications other than traditional ones like clothing, home textiles, etc. They are basically functional textiles used mainly for technical applications like protection, agriculture, environment and medical applications etc.
In short, they are specially designed engineering textile structural materials, having irreplaceable purposes in aerospace, construction, transportation, water conservancy, highway, environmental protection and other aspects. In recent years, Chinese technical textiles industry has developed rapidly in all the sixteen areas of technical textile applications and has experienced growth in varying degrees. They accounted for 15.42 percent of total processed textile fibres in 2007, touching 5,443,200 tons, a growth rate of 12.97 percent.
In, retrospective, the traditional textile industry shrunk in 2008, but the companies involved in production of technical textiles achieved a total industrial output value of 32.79 billion Yuan from January to November 2008, up 21.44 percent year-on-year, becoming an important force of China's textile industry.
