A surprising reversal of trends was noticed in prices of propylene in contrast to those witnessed in ethylene. While ethylene prices continued their dip in consecutive weeks, propylene prices have once again rebounded smartly.
Propylene prices for FOB South Korea in Far East region rose from last week's levels of US $645-647 per ton to close at $665-667 per ton, the price quoted on February 18.
Though, analysts are at a complete loss with regards to the increase in propylene prices.
Propylene prices in European markets also rose handsomely compared to last week. Propylene (polymerization level), FD Northwest Europe was quoted at Euro 436-446 per metric ton, corresponding to Euro 411-421 last week and CIF Northwest Europe stood at Euro 426-436 per metric ton, vis-à-vis Euro 401-411 per metric ton.
The US markets saw prices of propylene rising marginally from US cent 23.255-23.380 per lb in the previous week to US cent 23.380-23.630 per lb, on Wednesday.
