BJA seeks tax & duty waiver on exports of raw jute

In a pre-budget meeting, held recently with the members of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the Bangladesh Jute Association (BJA) has urged the government to waive off all duties and taxes on export of raw jute from the country.
The meeting which took place on March 3, 2009 was headed by Chairman of NBR, Mr Muhammad Abdul Mazid and members of BJA including its Chairman, Mr Rezaul Karim, which requested government to patronize exports of raw jute.
Fibre2fashion spoke to Mr Rezaul Karim, Chairman, BJA to understand the demands put forth at the meeting. Mr Karim said, “We have pleaded for exemption of all kinds of duties and taxes on exports of raw jute, the proposal which has even been seconded by Chairman of NBR”.
He added by saying that, “All these recommendations as well as demands were put before the NBR chairman which will be considered in our next budget (2009-2010)”. One of the demands also includes a tax holiday to be given from the first day of production.
