In the first two months of 2009, textile and garment exports from Vietnam to almost all key markets saw a decline; however a remarkable growth was witnessed in markets of Asia, which is the key reason for negative growth figures not falling precipitously.
Exports from the sector in Jan-Feb period touched US $1.3 billion, up 3.1 percent, y-o-y and accounted for 11.3 percent of target for the sector in 2009, of which Japan fetched $138 million, up an amazing 26.8 percent from that of the same period in 2008.
Exports to ASEAN region stood at $26.7 million, again up by an awesome 31 percent. Shipments from the sector to Taiwan and Korea also registered a smart recovery by growing by a mind boggling 160.81 percent and 41.79 percent respectively.
