Worldwide ethylene prices continue to play game of see-saw

The petrochemical markets across the globe seem to be playing a game of see-saw, what with prices jumping up and down since the last few weeks, and prices in one market falling and at the same time increasing in other global markets. After the prices rebounded to new highs after the festival holidays in China they have gone on a roller coaster ride.

Ethylene prices for CFR Northeast Asia augmented to US $681-686 per metric ton, compared to S $630-635 per metric ton in the previous week, while ethylene prices for CFR Southeast Asia ranged between $600-610 per metric ton compared to $605-615 per metric ton in the last week.

Ethylene prices for the Far East region, (FOB South Korea) and (FOB Japan), also maintained their ascent in growing from $608 per metric ton to $630 per metric ton. In the last week, prices in both the major markets had moved by nearly $13 per metric ton.

In the Europe region, prices of ethylene in FD Northwest Europe which had stayed flat in the weeks before the last one, but had fallen in the previous week, continued its descent to fall to €591-601 per metric ton from €595-605 per metric ton, while CIF Northwest Europe rose marginally from $690-700 per metric ton to $691-701 per metric ton.

Prices of ethylene have maintained their downward slide which began in the last two weeks and now have fallen to US cent 23.505-24.005 per pound on Thursday from US cent 22.255-22.505 per pound recorded in the previous week
