As the country's biggest textile and garment export province, Guangdong's total textile and garment exports in January-February this year reached $3.792 billion, marking a year-on-year decrease of 17.58 percent.
Guangdong's exports account for 25 percent of the national exports from the textile and garment sector, but the province's clothing exports first plunged in the first half of 2008, the negative growth reaching as high as about 30 percent by mid-2008.
Clothing exports of Shenzhen indicated an abnormal growth in 2007, but fell significantly in 2008 and in the process dragged down the overall growth rate of textile and garment exports from Guangdong province.
Guangdong's textile exports have registered negative growth of 21.34 percent and 17.73 percent in the first two months of 2009 respectively. Textile exports which could maintain growth last year, also showed a decline in 2009.
