Begbies Traynor has been appointed as administrator to JH Birtwistle Ltd, formerly owned by the Hungerford based high street retailer John Lewis and which was sold off to Apex Textiles Ltd in 2007.
The Haslingden based textile company, set up in 1882 has revenues of £7 million and employed 102 employees and was primarily in to weaving fabrics from man-made textiles.
The failure of JH Birtwistle is attributed to the closure of its principle buyer and Carlisle based sister company, Stead McAlpin & Co Ltd, which is mainly in to printing and dyeing of fabrics.
Begbies Traynor is confident of selling JH Birtwistle as a running company and in the process safeguard the jobs of the 102 employees of the weaving company.
