American Foam Fiber & Supplies Midwest Inc (AFFS), a foam and fiber manufacturer and supplier, has announced its plans to locate a new production center in Indianapolis, creating 50 jobs by 2012.

AFFS, which fabricates foam cushioning and manufactures polyester fiber padding, will invest more than $3 million to locate its operations in a 45,000 square-foot facility in Wayne Township.

"Indiana's business-riendly environment sets us apart from other states and gives companies like American Foam Fiber & Supplies a reason to establish roots here. This announcement is welcome news during the current challenging economic times," said Governor Mitch Daniels.

Azusa, Calif-based AFFS will begin hiring manufacturing associates and supervisory staff immediately to coincide with the planned commencement of operations. “We are pleased to expand our business into the Midwest and bring opportunities to the Indianapolis community. Indiana's strong transportation infrastructure and low cost of doing business initially attracted us to the state as we looked for ways to better support our growing client base,” said Jack Hung, president of American Foam Fiber & Supplies. “We look forward to establishing a long-term partnership with the people of Indiana.”

Founded in 2006, this announcement marks the company's first expansion outside of its California headquarters. AFFS' Indiana expansion positions the company closer to its customer base providing savings in transportation and distribution costs. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered AFFS up to $100,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $30,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. The city of Indianapolis and Indianapolis Economic Development, Inc. will support the company's expansion with additional property tax abatement.

"I'm pleased to welcome American Foam Fiber & Supplies to Indianapolis and certainly appreciate the new jobs they will bring to the city. Once again our location, low costs, and high quality of life have made us the strategic choice for companies seeking Midwestern locations," said Mayor Greg Ballard.

Indiana's manufacturing industry received an overall “A” grade, according to a 2009 National Manufacturing and Logistics Report Card published by Conexus Indiana.

American Foam Fiber & Supplies has been in business for 18 years. The company fabricates foam cushioning and padding for consumer products, medical furniture, bedding, packaging, marine applications, residential furniture and recreational vehicles.

IEDC created by Governor Mitch Daniels in 2005 to replace the former Department of Commerce, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation is governed by a 12-member board chaired by Governor Daniels.

Indianapolis Economic Development, Inc. is Marion County's local economic development organization. IEDI is dedicated to providing business attraction; existing business retention and expansion; and location services in Indianapolis/Marion County, serving as a catalyst for capital investment and quality job growth.
