According to the latest country report on trade and investment environment from the Website of the Commerce Department, China's exports in 2008 suffered 93 trade protectionism probes from 21 countries (regions) in total.
The investigations amount to a total of US $6 billion, representing a substantial increase from that in 2007, when it stood at 81 cases and $3.6 billion.
Of the 93 cases, 70 cases were anti-dumping, 10 cases were safeguard measures and 2 pertained to special protections. The US launched 11 cases of 337 investigations against products of Chinese origin, involving as much as $2.75 billion.
Since the financial crisis has unfolded, both China's imports and exports, as of March, have displayed a continuous decline for 5 months, due to the slowdown and as well setting up of tariff barriers by countries to block imports from China.
