Prices for wool moves up

Buyers for China dominated sales this week followed by support from India and from Europe.

Australian Bureau of Statistics export data for March was released this week. 83%of Australia's exports went to China during the month, the highest ever, and India moved into second place (5.6%) over Italy (4.1%) on a monthly basis.

Sales will be held in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle next week, when 41,745 bales are currently rostered for sale. Present estimates for the following two sales are 41,850 and 39,700 bales, respectively, a decrease of 2.5% over the three sale period when compared with last year.

In South African sales, where 10,318 bales were on offer, the Cape Wools Indicator was up by 5.1% since the last sale two weeks ago against a 6.5% appreciation of the Rand against the US Dollar and a 3.9% appreciation against the Euro.
