After more than three years of intense construction, a world-class petrochemical plant with an annual processing capacity of 12 million tons crude oil, 800,000 tons ethylene, 800,000 tons polyethylene, 400,000 tons polypropylene and 700,000 tons aromatics has been set up.
The Fujian Refining and Ethylene Integration Project stands on the south bank of the Quangang area and at present the project is in the final stages of completion before being put into production. The actual investment of the major petrochemical project amounts to around 130 billion Yuan.
The first refining plant of the integrated project is expected to be put into trial operations in May-June this year and the project is expected to be fully operational later this year. It covers an area of 437 hectares, with 25 percent investment each from Sinopec, Fujian Province, ExxonMobil and Saudi Aramco.
It is the first joint venture for an integrated petrochemicals plant. The project will provide an impetus to the rapid development of oil and chemicals, new materials, textiles, electronics, automotive and other industries in Quangang, which is now a petrochemical industry cluster with billions of Yuan in investment.
