We next asked him to tell us the effects of the properties of the herbs on the wearer of the garments, to which he categorically said, “We do not claim for any medicinal effect of the clothing however since the organic herbal clothing is 100 percent free from any synthetic chemical therefore it has immense environmental and community benefits”.

To another question regarding the current global market for herbal wear textiles and clothing, Mr Baid said, “A recent facts report on the international market for sustainable apparel estimates that the global market for sustainable apparel is growing at 83 percent and reached US $2.1 billion in 2007, or 0.47 percent of the entire global apparel market worth US $450 billion. The retail demand of organic cotton products is projected to increase at an average annual rate of 110 percent as companies continue to implement long term commitments to markets”.

“Organic cotton sales have increased by 83 percent in 2007, when compared with 2006 and the overall market is expected to touch $6.8 billion by 2010. Currently organic cotton products use synthetic chemicals for the dyeing which may be shifted to the natural herbal dyeing process, whereby the products meet the standard of eco friendly products. Therefore the market potential is huge. European countries and governments have promoted organic textiles and are working to enforce laws which state that 11 percent of all textiles sales should be organic textiles”, he concluded by saying.

We than asked him to elaborate on the medium or label to certify a product made from herbs and if no how does he tackle the issue, to which he said, “There is 'Global Organic Textile Standard' (GOTS) certification available for organic cotton and also we are certified for weaving, dyeing and stitching and therefore the final made ups are certified”.
