ACN demand from ABS sector to grow - Tongsuh Petrochemicals

Tongsuh Petrochemicals, South Korea operates two production lines to manufacture Acrylonitrile (ACN), each having production capacities of 70,000 tons per year and 230,000 tons per year, respectively.

A maintenance schedule to turnaround both the plants have been scheduled in October and is expected to last for a month. To get confirmation of the news, Fibre2fashion spoke to an official source at Tongsuh.

The source confirmed the news of the turnaround and also said that currently both the plants are running at full operational capacities and during the force majuere will cater to its customers from its stocks.

Next we asked him to as to how they foresee demand in the next two quarters, to which he said, “Tongsuh sells in domestic as well as export markets and there was a recovery in Q1, but customers say it will be adjusted with the current months and future demand depends on economic recovery”.

Demand for ACN was expected to be higher from the ABS sector, rather than textile industry. Asking him to comment on the same, he said, “Nowadays, ACN demand for ABS is almost same as from textile sector, but ABS capacity will grow with the setting up of a new plant, while demand from textile industry will be flat”.
