'Right time to make presence felt in the market' – Trade fair exhibitor

A trade fair is one of the most important tools of marketing and promotion for any product. The textile and clothing industry also organizes hundreds of fairs in a year across the globe, which brings together exhibitors and buyers from the industry on one platform.
But the slowdown in the global economy has impacted textile and garment sector to a great extent and could also potentially affect the worldwide trade fair industry. To learn more about the impact of the slowdown on the trade fair industry, Fibre2fashion got an opportunity to speak exclusively to Perry Chen, Senior Account Executive of Shanghai Gehua Exhibition Service Co. Ltd.
We began the interview by asking him the effect of crisis in the first quarter of 2009 for which he said “Our major business is focused on textiles, apparel and hosiery trade fairs in China and we have millions of such manufactures and most of them are exporters and some famous brands would like to promote their brand image in domestic market and then would take part in our trade fairs”.
We were also curious to know, as to what extra lengths, they are going to maintain levels of participation of both, exhibitors and visitors, to which he said, “For exhibitors in Shanghai, the market price is RMB12,000 and we are offering good discounts and for visitors we are offering two nights free accommodations and it is totally free for overseas exhibitors”.
Lastly we asked him to for his advice to the exhibitors who are having second thought on participating in a trade fair in the current recessionary phase, to which he replied by saying by stating that “There are three types of companies, the first which needs to maintain its market share, the second which wants to increase its market share and last one which used to have full orders in hand and did not have time to promote and market, this is the most appropriate time to make their presence felt in the market”.
