Both the Mingo Award for clever business ideas and numerous collaborations with fashion makers and costume designers confirm the success of the young Viennese textile designer Veronika Persché.

On 20 April, the knitting designer Veronika Persché received the Vienna Business Agency's 2009 Mingo Award for creative and innovative small and micro businesses based in Vienna. Veronika Persché offers a creative service of a very special nature, producing fabrics for contractors in Austria and abroad in her Vienna knitting studio. Working closely with the knitting specialist, fashion designers, costume designers and artists develop fabrics that are custom-made to suit their creative needs.

The recognition of her clever business idea is a confirmation of the textile designer's vision: “I would like to encourage more creativity and offer the artists I work with the infinite possibilities of individualized knitting design, thus providing an alternative to the limitations of the typical fabrics available on the market.” Persché works not only with conventional yarns, but also with those containing metal or latex – producing astonishing effects in the finished product. “Coincidences and 'accidents' with wonderful results make working with the computer-controlled knitting machine into a daily adventure,” reveals the young textile designer.

After numerous collaborations with labels and designers in Austria and abroad, including “fabrics interseason”, Jessica Joyce and “Awareness & Consciousness”, as well as with the artist Erwin Wurm, Veronika Persché is also involved in many unconventional fashion projects this year. For Mischa Woeste's label Smeilinener (DE), for example, she is providing fabrics for the new collection “Nine to Five”, and she is also producing for Gina Drewes' (AT) winter collection. For the “Framing” collection by Txell Miras she has knitted a sweater with a

strikingly distorted form. The Stadttheater Klagenfurt has asked for her assistance in designing costumes for its staging of Franz Schubert's “Winterreise”.

Veronika Persché's unique creations are attracting growing attention. On 18 June starting at 7 p.m. the textile designer is opening her studio to the public within the framework of the Wiener Festwochen “We are Vienna” program. The evening will offer a great opportunity to have a look at the work of this exclusive Austrian-based textile designer before she turns her attention to her next international endeavors. From 1 to 15 July, Veronika Persché will be at the Richard Young Gallery in London, which is showing fashion photography by Mira Löw featuring Persché's knitted accessoires.
