EATP (the European Association for Textile Polyolefins) held its annual Executive Seminar in Madrid on May 11 and 12.

Textile polyolefins are a major sector of the European textile industry, producing polymers, fibres, fabrics and a wide range of other products, from polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE).

European output of polyolefin textiles exceeds € 3 billion a year. They have a huge range of uses, in floorcoverings, packaging, home textiles, engineering, agriculture, hygienic and medical products, sportswear and much else.

The theme of the 2009 Executive Seminar was “Meeting the Challenge of Recession in Polyolefin Textiles”. Eleven presentations by industry experts were given, covering:

• Polyolefin polymers and feedstocks
• Global change in fibres and textiles
• Innovation
• Sustainability
• Technical textiles
• Carpets
• Synthetic turf
• Alternative raw materials

EATP Director General Colin Purvis comments:
"This was a very lively and successful conference, with a series of outstanding presentations. It demonstrates the dynamic approach of the European polyolefin fibres and textiles industry, even in a period of extremely difficult markets.

"The future of the industry will be based on innovation, efficiency, quality, good marketing, outstanding customer service and the highest standards of environmental responsibility. European producers are continuing to look to the future, and the value that they provide to their customers will be the basis for renewed growth as their markets emerge from recession.

"EATP will go on supporting this development by its representational work on the polyolefin industry's behalf, and by the services which it provides to the industry."
