Spandex to find new applications in seamless apparel - Hyosung Corp

In today's world people are looking for comfortable and durable garments. Spandex is a synthetic fibre known for its exceptional elastic nature, and is stronger and more durable comparatively over rubber.
Also known as elastane, this fibre was invented by a chemist named Joseph Shivers in 1959. It has much more elasticity than rubber and can stretch up to 600 percent of its natural shape.
To explore more about the properties and applications, Fibre2fashion decided to explore the world of spandex fibre and in the process spoke to the European affiliate of the Korea based Hyosung Corporation, which is a globally renowned company in the world of textiles.
Founded in 1966, Hyosung has grown to be one of the most prestigious conglomerates in Korea, with approximately 17,000 employees and 7 trillion won in annual sales. Hyosung has a harmonized combination of 7 Performance Groups and 24 Performance Units
We began the interview by asking the official spokesperson, to let us and our readers know the applications of spandex, to which he said it is mostly used for sportswear, hosiery, intimate apparel, ready-to-wear and swimwear.
Next we asked him to reveal to us the market share Hyosung commands in global spandex sales, to which he said, “Hyosung Corporation is the second largest
elastane producer in the world and is branded under the name of 'creora'.
He added by saying, “With a portfolio of innovative and quality products, creora is a major supplier to the global swimwear, intimate apparel, hosiery, sports/active wear, ready-to-wear and personal hygiene markets”.
“Continuous research and development program of creora offers specialty products for hosiery and socks, warp knit, circular knit, seamless and woven fabric applications”, he concluded by saying.
To end the interview, we finally asked him if there was any other revolutionary application in the offing after the success of application in lingerie's, to which he said, it would find relevance in seamless, especially for sportswear and intimate apparel.
