To discuss and to find solutions on the problems related to textile industry, the textile lobby wants to meet Union Textile Minister Mr. Dayanidhi Maran. The problems such as non-availability of quality cotton, which is being faced by the industry since the last few years, will be discussed in the meeting.

The industry that already was going through unfavorable conditions due to various reasons since last two years was in a deeper crisis after the global economic meltdown, said India Spinning Mill Owners Association (ISMA) in a memorandum to Maran.

Mr. A.R. Chinniyan, the President of ISMA said that the supply of quality cotton seeds along with remunerative prices to farmers produce should be ensured by the government.

Further he alleged that the textile mills have to pay higher prices as well as the growers are not receiving any benefit due to 'vested interests', who were not related to textile industry but were dominating the cotton trade.

The spinners as well as other related sectors such as handlooms and powerlooms were also experiencing adverse conditions. The farmers and textile mills should be benefited by making cotton trade more efficient, suggested Mr. Chinniyan. The cotton exports should be allowed only after fulfilling the domestic requirements, he added.
