Employment potential revives in textile sector

Three textile and garment export companies in the Mactan Economic Processing Zone in Lapu-Lapu City are again receiving overseas orders and planning to re-employ more workers by September or October.

This is the sign of recovery for the export industry, which has been able to revive itself from the impact of global economic downturn. Employment contracts to 2,501 workers will be given out and will be distributed during the Independence Day celebrations on June 12.

1,762 skills training scholarship grants and 110 livelihood grants will also be provided by to the rural workers' association. Apart from this, a job fair will also be organized by the labor department from June 12 to June 14 at the Cebu city.

On the first day of this job fair, 484 job vacancies from various government agencies will be offered to the job seekers. While on the second day, 1000 job opening will be offered by 50 local employers and an overseas job fair will be conducted with 38 overseas employers on the last day of fair, which will offer 15,000 job openings to the applicants.
