Customs data released last week show that China's textile and garment exports declined from both the previous month and the same time last year, indicating textile and garment exports are still in the doldrums and will be difficult to see a favorable turn in the first half of the year.
Textile and garment export value registered US $12.31 billion in May, down 14.7 percent year-on-year, of which, textile exports scored US $4.89 billion, down 16.3 percent year-on-year and clothing shipments reached $7.41 billion, down 13.7 percent.
In a month-to-month comparison, exports in May fell 1.4 percent from that in April, of which textile exports dropped 4.4 percent. However, apparels exports grew 0.5 percent. From January to May, textile and apparel exports totaled $58.85 billion, down 11.1 percent.
In that period, textile exports completed $22.03 billion, down 15.5 percent while garment shipments achieved $36.82, down 8.1 percent year-on-year. Only, the month of March was a witness to an increase of exports from the sector and only due to the augmentation of clothing exports.
