Mr Dayanidhi Maran to visit Palladam & Coimbatore textile clusters

Thiru. Dayanidhi Maran, Hon'ble Union Minister of Textiles, is visiting the textiles clusters at Palladam and Coimbatore on 16th June, 2009, to have an interaction with the powerloom weavers, textiles and clothing exporters and members of The Southern India Mills' Association (SIMA).

In a press release issued, Thiru. J.Thulasidharan, Deputy Chairman, The Southern India Mills' Association (SIMA), said that the Hon'ble Minister is visiting the Manchester of South India i.e., Coimbatore, his first visit after assuming the charge, to have a feel of the sector. The textiles and clothing industry (T&C) is passing through a challenging phase, mainly due to economic down turn in developed economies like United States of America (USA) and the European Union (EU) 27 and appreciation of Indian rupee vis-a-vis the U.S. dollar.

Thiru. Dayanidhi Maran will first visit the Palladam High Tech Weaving Park, Palladam, which is the first Textiles Park to come up under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Park (SITP) which was launched by the Government of India in 2005.

Thiru. Thulasidharan said that the Minister is scheduled to meet the members of SIMA at “Legend Hall”, The Residency, Coimbatore to have one-to-one interaction with stakeholders of textiles and clothing industry. The visit is in a series of interaction which Thiru Maran has conceived to get inputs from the various interests of textiles industry to achieve the short, medium and long-term targets which the Minister has set for transformation of textiles and clothing industry.

Thiru. Thulasidharan said that Dr.B.K.Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Past Chairman, SIMA will felicitate the Hon'ble Minister of Textiles. Thiru. Pongalur N.Palanisamy, Hon'ble Minister for Rural Industries, Government of Tamil Nadu will preside over the function and Tmt. Rita Menon, I.A.S., Secretary (Textiles), Government of India will be the Guest of Honour.

Thiru. Thulasidharan said that textiles and clothing industry is earnestly praying that the Hon'ble Minister of Textiles will initiate appropriate steps to take out the textiles industry from short-term problems and transform into a developed industry.
