AATCC elects Southern Regional Board Member for 2009-2010

The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) held a special election to fill the position of Southern Regional Board Member. The email balloting took place from May 28 through June 12. Ballots were counted and results announced by John Y. Daniels, executive vice president, at the AATCC Technical Center on June 15.
Alan Buttenhoff of Shaw Industries was chosen to represent the Southern Region as the new Southern Regional Board Member. He will join regional board members Richard A. Malachowski, retired, New England Region; Adam R. Varley of Vartest Laboratories, Inc., Central Atlantic Region; Leonard T. Farias of Cotton Incorporated, Midsouth Region; Raymond E. Silva of Western Piece Dyers and Finishers, Western Region; Alfred K. F. So of Introtech Ltd, International Region; and Guddo S. Nadiger of the Ministry of Textiles for the Government of India, Indian Region for the 2009-2010 term.
Buttenhoff has been a member of AATCC since 2003. He has been active in the AATCC research committees, in particular, serving as secretary and currently chair of RA57, Floor Covering Test Methods. He is also a member of C3, Technical Committee on Research. Buttenhoff has also participated in AATCC International Conferences and supported the AATCC Textile Quiz Bowl at that event. He is active in the ASTM International Textile Floor Covering Committee, and is also involved with the Carpet and Rug Institute as a member of its Technical Issues Committee.
Buttenhoff graduated from Texas Tech University in 1983 with a BS in textile technology and from the Institute of Textile Technology (ITT) in 1985 with an MS in textile technology/management. He has spent his entire career with Shaw Industries, as an engineer, in department- and plant-level manufacturing positions, and currently as the manager of technical services at the company's Central Laboratories.
