China's petrochemical output registered 2.4 million tons in May 2009, an increase of 20.5 percent year-on-year. Of which, production of man-made fibres completed 130,000 tons, an increase of 28.9 percent year-on-year, but down 10 percent from the previous month.

Despite the recent improvement in the situation of petrochemical sector, it can not be fully said that the industry has walked out of a depressing phase and the foundation for its steady operation and development is still not as solid.
Experts say that the industry should change this crisis period into opportunity to speed up structural adjustment and upgrade with better technology, so as to improve overall competitiveness of the industry through application of high-tech means.
