Chemical fibre production continues to rise

Japan's production of man-made fibres had fallen by 31.1 percent in the month of April when compared with that in April 2008, but had increased by 10.3 percent from the previous month, the trend which has repeated itself in the month of May also.

According to a release of the Japan Chemical Fibre Association, man-made fibre chemical output fell by 28.3 percent year-on-year, but continued to maintain the trend in growing by 6.5 percent when compared with the previous month.

Petrochemical production which stood at 65,535 tons in April 2009, further increased to 69,578 tons in May 2009, which indicates an improvement in the consumption of this vital raw material in the main overseas markets of Japan.

In the month of May, output of Polyester staple fibre dropped by 14.2 percent, acrylic staple fibre by 35.6 percent, polyester filament by 43.1 percent and nylon filament production by 42.5 percent y-o-y, but all except acrylic staple fibre grew against the previous month.
