China Industry and Information Ministry released the report of Industrial Operations for the period January-May 2009. According to the report, added value of textile industry showed a year-on-year increase of 9.7 percent in May, thereby maintaining a growth rate of more than 8 percent for the last three months.
Export delivery value of textile products declined 6 percent year-on-year, but the drop narrowed 1.8 percent from the previous month. In May, yarn production rose 11.4 percent, 1.5 percent higher than the previous month; cloth production increased by 1.6 percent y-o-y, while it fell 0.9 percent from in the previous month.
Apparel output grew 4.8 percent while that of petrochemical rose 20.5 percent, 18 percent higher than the previous month. Domestic cotton prices also rose slightly while polyester staple fibre prices fell. By the end of May, domestic cotton price index (328) was quoted at 12,779 Yuan per ton, up 66 Yuan per ton from the previous month.
Prices of cotton yarn (32s) in Qianqing market stood at 17,800 Yuan per ton, unchanged from the previous month. Prices of polyester staple fibre and polyester filament were 8,600 Yuan per ton and 10,050 Yuan per ton, down 800 Yuan per ton and 850 Yuan per ton respectively, from the previous month.
