Changshu polyester market consolidates after rise

Jun '09
In the past seven days, concluding yesterday, the Changshu polyester market consolidated itself after having moved upwards, earlier in the week. Prices of most products rose 100-200 Yuan per ton prior to June 22, but trade volume narrowed after June 23-24 due to a wait-and-see attitude from lower reaches.

Market sales of polyester filaments received mixed reaction. Looking at the market trends, FDY50D/24F traded in the range of 11,500-11,600 Yuan per ton, 68D/24F at 10,800 Yuan per ton and 75D/36F between 10,500-10,600 Yuan per ton.

Trade volume of FDY75D/36F bright filament rebounded, with prices rising by 100 Yuan per ton to about 10,600 Yuan per ton. Sales of FDY150D were brisk in the week and were quoted at 9,600-9,700 Yuan per ton.

Recent demand for DTY/144F, 288F has enlarged from lower reaches, as most products are used in production of velvet fabrics. Overall trade volumes of conventional varieties like DTY100D and 150D were fair.

But supply obviously exceeded demand as most offers seemed confusing. In addition, velvet fabrics have entered production season and as a result, sales of polyester yarn have also began to move up.
