For the textile industry, we partnered with a local formulator to develop a new silicone based softening technology in India, which significantly reduces the amount of water and energy used to process denim. This technology saves about 15 liters of water for every pair of jeans processed– when you think that there are approximately 1.9 Billion pairs made every year, that's 28 Billion liters of water saved.
"And in agriculture, the next generation of our silicone rubber technology is helping to save water for Indian palm oil producers, and sugar cane farmers in the Philippines. By working with manufacturers of drip irrigation systems we have improved water efficiency by 40 percent, a significant step in helping to address depleting water levels linked to global warming.
“Our company is making significant investments to ensure we are positioned for the market opportunities that lie ahead. We've announced investments of more than 4 billion US dollars in the last 5 years, in solar and other renewable technologies; in infrastructure and transportation development; in personal care and life sciences applications; and many, many other exciting new breakthroughs on the horizon. We're focusing our people and their energy, intellect and passion for excellence on this exciting new future.
“We're obviously very excited within Dow Corning about the transformation we are making in our business. The changes we announced today mean Dow Corning is well positioned to meet the needs of customers who want efficiency but also the needs of companies who want innovation and sustainability. And as a result create real economic, environmental and social benefits whether they engage with our Dow Corning brand or our XIAMETER brand”, he concluded by saying.
