MSP of cotton to be retained at last year's level

The agriculture ministry has proposed to continue to maintain the same Minimum Support Price (MSP) for cotton as was prescribed last year.
It may be recalled that, MSP of cotton had witnessed a steep increase last year and the increases ranged between 25-40 percent for different varieties.
The support price for medium staple cotton had been raised from Rs 1,800 to Rs 2,500 per quintal and that of long staple from Rs 2,030 to Rs 3,000 per quintal.
