While addressing a two day international workshop on non-wovens, the Executive Director of the US based Association of the Non-Woven Fabrics Industry (INDA), Mr Wong, said that, the textile sector in India, should invest more in research and development, rather than going in for new machineries.

He said, “Investment in machinery yields slow returns, while pumping amounts in to R&D can help the enterprise to develop ones own products, which had the capability to deliver better returns as well as results in a short span of time.

He added by saying that, except India, all other textiles manufacturing countries were facing an economic slowdown, which should be taken advantage of by the Indian textile sector and that priority products differed from country to country.

The two day workshop was organised by Technitex Nonwovens, Bangalore and Mr Ramkumar Seshadri, Associate Professor at Texas-Tech University, US from July 3-4 at Coimbatore. Over 140 delegates attended the workshop.
