According to the Japan Chemical Fibers Association, production of man-made fibres has dipped by an awesome 30 percent in the first six months of 2009, when compared to the same period in 2008.

Overall production of fibres like Nylon filament, polyester filament, acrylic staple fibre etc, in the period Jan-June of the current year stood at 394,877 tons compared to 568,117 tons in the corresponding period of 2008.

The biggest drop was experienced by polyester filament and nylon filament which fell by 42.6 percent and 42.7 percent respectively. This is mainly due to the slowdown in the industrial sector in Japan and global markets.
