The 2009 Automotive Engineering Exposition took place from May 20 to 22 in Yokohama. This is the largest Japanese technology exposition for automobile engineers with the latest technologies and products from around the world gathered in one place. The Toray Group was headed by Toray and included other group companies - Toray Research Center Inc., Du Pont-Toray Co., Ltd. and Dow Corning Toray Co., Ltd.

Under the three themes of Environment, Light-weight, and New Technologies, Toray exhibited state-of-the-art materials and technologies from the fields of fibers and textiles, resins, foams, films, carbon fibers, IT-related products, and analytical technologies.

A special car designed to display Toray's various advanced materials was also exhibited. To realize a light-weight structure, carbon fiber was applied to the hood, roof and other parts. Polylactic acid (PLA) fiber originated from plants was used for the floor mats, definitely contributing to CO2 reduction. Furthermore, hybrid-related parts playing key roles in energy efficiency improvement and energy conservation were mainly made of Toray's resins, films and other advanced products.

Over a three-day period, about 50,000 people visited the exhibition, many of whom stopped by Toray's booth. The show was a big success.
