The Federal Minister for Commerce, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, who delivered the trade policy speech, said that the government of Pakistan recognises the importance of the textile and clothing sectors.
But he said that the first ever textile policy will be announced separately, which through various initiatives from the government will provide a foundation for sustainable growth for the sector in these crucial times.
He expressed concern on falling exports from the country which had fallen to US $17.8 billion in 2008-09 from $19 billion in 2007-08, down by 7 percent, while imports also dipped from $40 billion to $34.8 billion, a negative growth of 13 percent.
