According to China Hemp Textile Industry Association, in January to April this year, jute market was basically stable. Demand for jute from domestic production enterprises was strong.

Pakistan and India imported large quantities of jute from Bangladesh, resulting in rapidly rising price of raw jute from Bangladesh; the rise was as high as 29 percent, and 100 percent higher than the same period last year.

China's May imports of jute came to 6,723 tons, down 34.38 percent year-on-year; import amount registered US $2.99 million, a decline of 18.31 percent year-on-year.

From January to May, China's total jute imports fetched 26,464 tons, down 55.26 percent year-on-year; total value of imports marked $11.87 million, a decline of 42.35 percent year-on-year.

Although new jute acreage increased from last year, total output of new jute is less than 50,000 tons and the demand gap is expected to reach more than 20,000 tons in July and August.
