North-Eastern Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation Limited has organized an Exhibition-cum-sale of artworks in Bangalore which has opened on July 15 and will continue till August 2. The exhibition displays artifacts from the Seven Sister States, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.

While selling and popularizing the beautiful and highly artistic indigenous hand works of these states, the artisans are interacting with the hordes of visitors and informing them about the various aspects of the north-eastern land of the country and its people as well, said an official of the corporation.

This part of the country has its unique art and culture apart from the militancy and violence, for which the region has been recognized across the country. The artisans of the land hope that they could make some well-wishers for the region through their varied and lineage of art works.

The official added that along with providing a first-hand exposure of various places in India to the artisans, the efforts are also being taken to popularize the unparallel beauty of the art works of the region, as it has a strong handloom and handicraft heritage. Cane and Bamboo are the prominent components of the handicrafts here.

Baskets and decorative pieces made from Bamboo are the most decorative pieces among the other handcrafted works. A large number of people here are dependent on traditional handicraft heritage of the region for living.
