The state owned Rajshahi Textile Mills has reopened its door, nine months after it was shut down, with the aim to privatize it and also due to mounting debts.

A private sector company will provide the cotton to run the mill and will pay the mill conversion charges for spinning the same in to yarn.

In the initial stages the mill is expected to employ 200 workers which will be increased to 500 workers in gradual stages as production picks pace.

Rajshahi Mills had floated tenders to privatize the mill three times in the last nine months, but no expression of interest was received from the private sector.

The mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation, Mr Liton who formally opened the mill had taken the initiative to restart the defunct mill.
