On the back of low rainfall in Malda district of West Bengal, agriculture development officers in the district have advised the farmers to use manually operated “Jute Ribboner” machines to overcome the problem while retting and harvesting the jute crop.
In normal circumstances, the jute is retted by using large expanses of wet lands created naturally by the rains in any monsoon season. But this time since rainfall has been inadequate the field experts have recommended using Ribboner machines.
According to the agriculture officers, the farmers can collect the bark of the jute by using the Ribboner machines and then dip it in even a small pond of water to get good quality of jute fibre, since by using Ribboner machines, it needs less quantity of water.
