Spot market of styrene closed at US $1074-1076 per ton on August 19 and spread between pure benzene and styrene narrowed to $136.5 per ton. Market offers were quoted at $1070-1090 per ton, Rotterdam.
Styrene producers think that at least a reduction of $100 per ton in pure benzene price could activate currently weakened market.
Although pure benzene market has declined by $147 per ton since August 10, great demand in the second quarter boosted the price to a high level, but the high-price is unbearable to demand from lower reaches.
Some styrene producers consider that reducing pure benzene price is not the solution and only the restoration of demand in lower reaches is the solution to current problem in the market.
