Exports from the textile and ready-made garment sector from one of the biggest manufacturing regions in Turkey; Bursa, is witnessing an awesome decline, due to the ongoing recessionary trends blowing across global markets.

In the first seven months of 2009, shipments of textiles from Bursa, slumped by 25 percent while that of clothing dipped by 30 percent. Against US $ 1billion in the first seven months of 2008, exports from the sector, could reach only $744.5 in the same period of 2009.

Of which, exports of textile products totaled to $483 million, down from $643.5 million a year ago and on the other hand, sales of ready-made-garments, dropped to $261.6 million from $374.8 million.

Export sales from Bursa, to its key developed markets of the European Union dropped by a high percentage, while those to under developed markets which have been less affected by the crisis, recorded a growth.

In ranking by value, Germany topped the list to which exporters shipped the highest value of goods, followed by Russia, Iran, Romania, Britain, Poland and Italy in that order.
