Union Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee said that the Jute Corporation of India is still not buying jute from farmers, though it has been asked to purchase raw jute directly from the farmers instead of middlemen.

The jute mill owners are not able to use advanced technology for goods production which is essential to compete with the synthetic alternative in the global market, criticized the Minister, while addressing the conference of JCI employees.

This inability of jute producers is despite the fact that the various governments across the world are encouraging use of jute bags and other products as a measure for environmental improvement, regretted Mr. Mukherjee.

Furthermore, he asked the jute manufacturers to enhance the quality of finished goods and also the marketing strategies to have competitive stand in the global market, which is attracting towards the synthetic materials to enjoy cost benefits and other factors.
