Therefore, he is focusing on the 'Look East' Policy', and had led a delegation of exporters to Tokyo and invited the Japanese Textiles Industry to collaborate with Indian textiles Industry in manufacture of fabric and garmenting, setting up of Green Field Units in textiles machinery, manmade fibre and yarn and create brand equity with Indian Apparel Company, said Thiru. Maran.

The Minister said that we are also concentrating on the US and European Union, our traditional markets. The US textiles and clothing market will come out of recession soon and my recent visit there has immensely helped exporters to grab a large chunk of market, said Thiru. Maran. The Minister hoped that if sustained efforts are made by the industry, the country can capture additional US$ 1.5 billion textile and clothing export in US market, which will also help to generate additional employment opportunities. My new mantra for the textiles sector is 'manufacture in India, sell in India and make money in India', It's the same mantra that I had for the telecom sector, said the Textiles Minister. Keeping this in view, we are planning to have road shows in seven European countries in November to attract investment in Indian textiles, said Thiru Maran.

The Textiles Minister outlined that in order for India to have double digit growth, attributes such as job creation, inclusive economic growth, infrastructure development and health care improvement are minimum requirements. Interestingly, technical textiles will play an important role in all these aforementioned areas, said Thiru. Maran. There is an immediate need to increase technical textiles usage in our country, which is 4% as compared to international norms of 22%, emphasized Thiru. Maran.

The Textiles Minister said that he has been urging the industry, particularly the conventional textiles sector, to make efforts to create more marketing and technical awareness on technical textiles products, this way, by the time the global economic situation takes an upturn by 2010, the Indian technical textiles sector will come into its own. The Textiles Minister said that to provide easy access to consumers and various stakeholders, we have launched the e-Marketing platform developed by the Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Ltd. (CCIC), and the Handicraft and Handlooms Export Corporation of India Ltd.(HHEC), and the Ministry of Textiles website (http://ministryoftextiles.gov.in) has been made interactive and informative.
