Handlooms carry good prospects in overseas markets

Handloom sector is one of the most ancient industries of India. Due to severe competition, and mechanization of the textile industry, handloom sector has lost much of its significance and market share. By reviving the industry, India can generate a impact on the global supply of handloom articles, which are very specific to India and create a huge footprint in global markets.

To survive the changed competitive conditions due to globalization and liberalization of the economy, there is an urgent need for upgrading the technology levels currently prevailing in the handloom weaving segment. A proper action plan in which all the stakeholders i.e., the government, the weavers and the other interest groups are fully involved should be prepared.
