Textile sector needs good leaders – Mr Lalbhai, Arvind Ltd

He said that clusters like those in Tirupur and Ludhiana should be encouraged since development of the textile and apparel sector lay in the inherent strengths of each and every company across the whole value chain.
With regards the apparel sector, he said he felt sad that there was not a single apparel brand in the country which had a turnover of more than US $15 billion in a market size of $40 billion against the multi-billion dollar turnovers of brands like Nike, Adidas and Levis. He appreciated the development of organised retail in India, but said that more than 70 percent of the 80 million sq.feet developed in the last few years was facing a crisis.
