Dow Corning Corporation's Impact Protection Business Development Manager Dr. Liz Mallen will present “The Dow Corning Active Protection System: Two Years on New Learnings, New Challenges, New Opportunities and Two New Technology Platforms” at the How to Enter Technical Textiles Markets symposium this month.

In her presentation, Mallen will introduce Dow Corning Active Protection System, the patented impact protection textile that aims to address the drawbacks of traditional hard-armor systems by delivering comfortable protection in a versatile form. She will discuss what Dow Corning has learned since the product was first launched in 2006, and identify and explain new opportunities utilizing the new technology platforms.

This year, the patented Dow Corning Active Protection System product offering was extended, making the technology suitable for new applications in sports, medical, PPE and luggage as well as many others. The S-Range is based on 3D spacer textile technology and the TP-Range is based on thermoplastic technology.

“The new products – seven in total – are flexible, breathable, washable and offer great impact protection,” Mallen said. “Overall, designers are getting far more choices. Unlike bulky hard-armor systems, Dow Corning Active Protection System silicone technologies are very comfortable to wear in terms of fit, freedom of movement and breathability.”

The new product lines can be incorporated directly into products to shield against high-energy impacts, delivering outstanding protection and apparel comfort. Supplied on rolls, Dow Corning Active Protection System products can easily be cut into desired shapes and built up in layers to maximize protection where needed.

The Fifth International Symposium on How to Enter Technical Textiles Markets, which takes place October 15-16 in Edinburgh, Scotland, will offer attendees an opportunity to hear from international experts about the nature of and prospects for every technical textiles market.
