The data from Czech Association of the Textile, Clothing and Leather Industries (ATOK) reveals that the sales of textile and clothing companies fell by 14.1 percent to Kc21.3bn in first half of the current year.

Textile sales tumbled down by 13.5 percent and came to Kc17.7bn, whereas sales of clothing items dropped to Kc3.7bn, recording a plunge of 16.7 percent. This fall in sales follows a fall in the whole economy.

In textile production, the number of employees fell down by 20 percent to 25,000 workers and that of in clothing production to 16,000 workers.

There is a year-on-year increase in average monthly wage of the textile and clothing industry by 6.7 percent to Kc15,200. Average income of the workers in textile production was Kc17,700 a month, which is Kc3,800 more than in clothing production.
