Indonesia intends to double its textile exports to Japan. The country expects to achieve growth in export values within next five years, said Mr. Ansari Bukhari, Director-General of Metals, Machinery and Textiles.
In first half of the current year, Indonesia exported textiles worth US $260 million, recording a fall of 26 percent in comparison with the same period last year and it has been estimated that till the end of 2009 these exports would reach $500 million, he added.
Textile products of Indonesia in Japanese market accounts for only two percent of Japanese textile and clothing imports and in a bid to increase this amount, Indonesian government is cooperating with the Japanese government, informed Mr. Bukhari.
However, he said that initially the country will focus on increasing the export value rather than market expansion. In this respect, few members of the Industry Department and 12 textile companies are paying a visit to Japan. All these efforts are likely to offer technical and quality improvement to Indonesian textile industry.
