As of September 30, progress of cotton harvest in China was 35.7 percent, down 10.9 percent compared with 46.6 percent of the same period last year.
Among cotton production areas, harvest progress of the Yangtze River, Yellow River and the Northwest regions realized 42.5 percent, 43.9 percent and 20.2 percent, respectively, down 1.3 percent,12.6 percent and 44.3 percent, respectively.
The main reasons behind the reduced harvest progress are; continued rain in September in the Yellow River region, which, suspended local harvest progress for more than 20 days.
In the Northwest region, the maturity of the cotton boll was severely delayed, which led, to slow down in harvest activities and lastly in the Yellow River basin, wheat planting was late this year, which in turn affected cotton planting and harvesting too.
