The Pakistani textile industry is seeking exemption from any further increase in electricity charges and also seeks that the load shedding period for the sector be reduced.

In the recently announced textile policy, the sector was given exemption from load shedding, but has not been implemented till date, say businessmen from the industry.

The industry under the leadership of the textile minister has held several rounds of meetings with different connected ministries to sort out the issue.

In view of the upcoming winter season, they are also seeking exemption from gas-outages, though as of now there is no shortage of the same.

The Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) has been directed to finalise the schedule of the load shedding after discussing the same with textile industry.
